Dr. Derrick Y. Tam is a board-certified heart surgeon with over 10 years of experience, specializing in minimally invasive and robotic heart surgery. After completing cardiac surgery residency at the University of Toronto, he trained at Cedars-Sinai in robotic surgery. He holds a PhD in Health Technology Assessment from the University of Toronto, combining advanced surgical skills with a deep understanding of how to improve care for every patient.
Dr. Tam leads the most comprehensive robotic cardiac surgery program in the city. Using the robotic platform, Dr. Tam and his team offers mitral valve repair or replacement, tricuspid valve repair, cardiac tumor removal, arrhythmia surgery (ie. MAZE procedure), and atrial septal defect closure.
